Welcome Sue Carey Reflexology Reflexology & Fertility Contact Details Frequently Asked Questions

Is Reflexology painful?
No.  Reflexology is not painful, but can be uncomfortable at times. If a reflex is out of balance it might be tender and I will take time to work this reflex until it becomes normalised.  The Reflexology routine includes lots of very pleasant, relaxing techniques which by far outweigh any discomfort!

How do I know which Reflexologist to choose?
Choose a well-trained Clinical Reflexologist who is a member of the Association of Reflexologists, who has also done the International Institute of Reflexology Diploma (IIR,MAR). The Association of Reflexologists is the largest professional body representing Reflexologists in the UK and the International Institute of Reflexology Diploma is widely seen as the Gold Standard of Reflexology. Embody is a brand which has gained the public's confidence increasingly in recent years representing complementary therapists since it morphed from the International Guild of Professional Practitioners.

Sue practices Clinical Reflexology using the Original Ingham method and is qualified in Advanced Reflexology Techniques (ART Reg'd). She regularly attends Masterclasses, courses and seminars to keep her skills up to scratch. She is a member of the Association of Reflexologists (IIR,MAR) and a member of Embody (MCThA). In addition she practises Vertical Reflexology techniques, where the patient stands for 2-3 minutes at the beginning and end of the normal treatment session. It is extremely powerful and brings rapid results in many cases.

Is Reflexology Safe for Children and the Elderly?
Yes.  A treatment is often shorter and pressure is lighter, but just as beneficial.  Even newborn babies respond well to Reflexology.

Is Reflexology Safe During Pregnancy?
Yes, it is recommended that you avoid treatments during the first 12 weeks, unless you've been having regular treatments up to the pregnancy.  Reflexology can be extremely helpful in coping with morning sickness, tiredness, back-ache and common ailments associated with pregnancy.

I am on medication.  Will you tell me to stop taking it?
No.  You should continue taking any medication that has been prescribed for you.

Are complementary therapies safe?
Yes. Reflexology is safe and powerful. Very few conditions are contra-indicated by International Institute trained members who believe that the particular technique of Reflexology sets the body up for healing to take place, not the reverse.

What happens during the initial consultation?
I will ask you a series of questions that will enable me to compile an appropriate treatment programme for you.  If you have any questions about the therapy, please don't hesitate to ring me.

Why do you need to know about my diet and lifestyle?
Diet and exercise play a key role in healthcare.  Certain small changes to your diet and lifestyle may help to improve your presenting health condition.

Do I need to accompany my child during a treatment?
Yes.  This is a legal requirement as you may need to answer questions on your child’s behalf, particularly during the initial consultation when I need to understand about previous medical conditions, medication, surgery, etc.

How many treatments will I need?
This varies depending on your current state of health.  I may suggest that you try a course of 6-8 treatments initially, followed by a review of the resulting improvements.   After your initial consultation I will be able to advise you on what I feel is required.  If you are using complementary therapies purely for relaxation and enjoyment, rather than to tackle a health condition, you can book treatments as and when you like.

I've heard that reflexology can help fertility problems. Is this true?
Yes. Reflexology has proved extremely helpful in many cases of this kind. Using complementary medicine first, offers you the opportunity for safe, natural healing and where this is successful often the pregnancy goes more smoothly, with fewer ante-natal health problems too.
