NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

My Approach

My approach is to produce a tailor made plan for your particular needs. Your personalised nutrition plan has clear therapeutic aims, an identified starting point and review consultations at key stages.  Your plan may address any of a number of issues of concern to you such as food intolerances, digestive health and wellbeing, energy production, detoxification issues, skin health, general wellness, your immune system, women’s health, men’s health, heart health, natural health for teenagers and children, allergies, muscle and joint health, sleep, mood, memory and concentration issues.

I come to nutritional therapy with a love of good, real food and a keen interest in the science behind its therapeutic benefits and its ability to restore better function.

Functional Medicine is the future of conventional medicine – available now. It seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease, and views the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialties. It treats the whole system, not just the symptoms. Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership."  Dr Mark Hyman

I’m trained to unravel and make sense of your health story and will dig deep to discover what underlying dysfunctions are unhelpful to your wellness.  For longevity and wellness our body machines need good quality fuels; margarine for example, was developed for industry to fatten turkeys, but isn’t real food.   Our unique genetics, biology and physiology are radically altered by what we ingest and inhale both good and bad. True, we can survive on scientific ‘foods’, but have we forgotten what true wellness feels like in body and mind?

‘Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food’ Hippocrates:

"If you listen carefully to the patient he will tell you the diagnosis’   Sir William Osler 1814-1919; Aesculepius 2C BC.

Lack of real nourishment can be at the root of many common conditions because of malabsorption for example due to high levels of stress, prescription or recreational drugs, antibiotics, NSAIDS, smoking, high individual requirements for certain nutrients, alcohol and exercise-related conditions, environment.  Therefore we aren’t so much ‘what we eat’ as ‘what we absorb’ and this varies from individual to individual and their circumstances.  A general feeling of unwellness or disease sometimes precedes actual disease affecting our rational/emotional wellbeing.  With help from a good diet and lifestyle our body cells work constantly towards balance and stability for our wellbeing.

The Consultation Process. You will receive a health questionnaire form to fill in prior to the consultation and a 3 day diet diary. The feedback process is part of the consultation or review and is an opportunity to clarify both practical and technical elements within the plan.  Review appointments are set at intervals to adjust your plan as you work through its stages and as your wellbeing improves.
